What is an up and over garage door?

A common feature of an up and over door is a centrally located handle. By pulling this handle, the door is lifted and then smoothly slides back into the garage along the ceiling. This type of door operates by swinging up and over the garage entrance, hence its name.

We offer three different materials to suit your garage’s individual requirements, these are: steel, timber or grp (glass reinforced polyester). Each material comes in a variety of designs and colours to suit your desired aesthetic. Whether you prefer a traditional or contemporary look, there is an up and over garage door to suit every taste.

What is a canopy up and over garage door?

The up and over garage door with canopy lifting gearing requires less space for opening, as there are no tracks running back into the garage. Instead, the door panel runs vertically on tracks on the side of the frame and there is a torsion spring at the top of the frame.

The energy stored in the torsion spring generates torque and assists with the raising and lowering of the door, delivering a gentle and controlled door motion. The cable drum is connected to the torsion spring, round which the steel cables run to operate the door.

This door has secure 2-point locking at the top of the panel and then feature an anti-drop device to prevent the door crashing down in the event of a spring or cable failure.

You can also upgrade to a 4-point locking system for extra security.

When open the door panel protrudes one third forming a canopy.

What is a retractable up and over garage door?

An up and over garage door with retractable lifting gearing opens along horizontal tracks that run back into the garage. The retractable gear door has solid steel pivot arms and tension springs which help to lift and lower the door gently. Black plastic covers for the pivot arms provide trap prevention to reduce risk of injuries.

This door comes with secure two-point locking at the base of the door and they have a secure parking position to prevent the door from uncontrolled closing.

Retractable gearing has been designed specifically for use with an electric operator.
